Coal Mine-Dewatering

Flowservices recently supplied 13 clamp- on flowmeters to a major Coal Seam Gas company in the Surat Basin working with coal mine-dewatering. A local electrical company had previously installed a number of mechanical meters. Whilst the cost was low they often failed after a short time in service. The problem was identified and attributed to the muddy water, high solids and abrasive action of the water.

Measuring Hydro Electric Power – or ‘another dangerous day at work’

A recent customer rang us with a real doozy of a job. They needed flow measurement through a 6m pipe that was located in a dangerous position near a flowing river and often clogged with debris including rocks and branches from the flowing river which damaged the sensors when inserted into the pipe. Fortunately our ultrasonic technology was not effected by this but our man on the ground, Alan, was about to be tested.

Real Life Application: Dredging Sand Pumping

Alan was recently on site where our customer required flow measurement for a sand pumping slurry project through a large diameter pipe. The existing insertion magflow meters were challenging to maintain and had to be replaced frequently. They also required weekly checks by a technician due to the drift on the meters. Flow inaccuracies and failures were frequently reported, which was partly attributed to the highly abrasive sand combined with seawater causing the insertion style meters to fail prematurely.
